Becoming A Volunteer
At the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton and the Halton Children’s Aid Society, we rely on the dedication and passion of our volunteers to help us make a difference in the lives of children, youth, and families in our community. If you’re considering volunteering with us, we’re excited to share our step-by-step process with you
Step 1: Expressing Interest
It all starts with a simple form on our website. If you see a volunteer opportunity that interests you, fill out the form with your contact information and the position you’re interested in. We’ll email you an application package and a detailed role description.
Step 2: Application and Interview
Once we receive your application, we’ll invite you to a virtual interview. This is a great opportunity for us to get to know you better and for you to learn more about our organization and the volunteer role.
Step 3: Screening and Reference Checks
If you’re successful in the interview, we’ll ask you to complete a CPIN record search consent form and apply for vulnerable sector screening and driver’s abstracts. We’ll also conduct reference checks to ensure that we’re finding the best fit for our team.
Step 4: Onboarding
Once you’ve completed the screening and reference checks, we’ll welcome you to our team and begin the onboarding process. This includes an orientation to our organization and your specific volunteer role, as well as the collection of various documents and information, such as:
- A photo for your ID card
- Banking information for direct deposit (if applicable)
- Oath of confidentiality
- Code of conduct form
- Driver’s insurance and license pictures (if applicable)
- Waiver of liability
- Emergency contact information
Streamlining Our Process
We’re committed to making our volunteer recruitment process as efficient and effective as possible. To achieve this, we’re:
- Exploring the use of digital forms and electronic signatures to reduce paperwork
- Developing a comprehensive onboarding checklist to ensure all necessary steps are completed
- Providing clear communication and timelines to volunteers throughout the process
- Reviewing and refining our process regularly to ensure it remains efficient and effective
