Bikes For Kids

For 20 years, Bikes for Kids has been a beacon of hope and happiness for children in our community. This incredible program provides brand-new bicycles to children who may not otherwise have the opportunity to experience the joy of riding.

A Humble Beginning

It all started with a simple act of kindness. Greg Pace, the founder of Bikes for Kids, donated two brand-new bikes to the Children’s Aid Foundation of Halton during the holiday season. This sparked a conversation that would change everything. Pace learned that many children receive used bikes as donations, which broke his heart. He believed that every child deserves the thrill of riding a new bike, especially during the holidays.

A Simple yet Powerful Goal

In 2004, Bikes for Kids was launched with a straightforward objective: collect donations to buy new bikes and give them to kids who wouldn’t otherwise have access to one. We partner with Canadian Tire on Fairview Street in Burlington to supply the bikes and work closely with our team to identify the children who would benefit most.

A Community’s Overwhelming Support

Over the past two decades, our community has rallied behind Bikes for Kids. Hundreds of volunteers have dedicated their time to collect, assemble, and distribute bikes. Individuals and businesses have generously provided funding and resources, making it a true team effort.

The Impact: 2000 Bikes and Counting

The numbers are staggering – over 2000 bikes have been given away to date. This translates to 2000 children who have experienced the thrill of riding for the first time, gaining confidence, independence, and a lifelong love for cycling. However, it’s not just about the numbers; it’s about the smiles, laughter, and tears of joy that accompany each bike.

As Bikes for Kids celebrates its 20th anniversary, it’s clear that the program is more than just a charitable initiative – it’s a symbol of community spirit, generosity, and the power of cycling to bring people together.
