In the heart of Ontario’s Halton Region, a remarkable program is amplifying the voices of children and youth in care. YouthSAID, a leadership and advocacy group, is run by the youth, for the youth, under the umbrella of the Halton Children’s Aid Society. This innovative initiative provides a platform for young people to share their experiences, ideas, and concerns, shaping the future of child welfare in the community.
YouthSAID is more than just a program – it’s a movement. By providing opportunities for youth to participate in meetings with regional and provincial leaders, YouthSAID fosters a culture of collaboration and mutual respect. These young leaders are not only heard but also valued, as their insights and perspectives inform decision-making processes that impact their lives.
Through YouthSAID, participants develop essential leadership skills, including public speaking, problem solving, and teamwork. As they navigate the complexities of the child welfare system, these young leaders become empowered advocates for themselves and their peers.
Mentorship and Support:
YouthSAID members also provide mentorship and support to younger children in care, offering guidance, encouragement, and a listening ear. This intergenerational mentorship model helps:
YouthSAID’s influence extends beyond the Halton Region. By engaging with provincial leaders, these young advocates contribute to the development of policies and programs that affect children and youth in care across Ontario.
As YouthSAID continues to grow and evolve, its impact is undeniable. By amplifying the voices of children and youth in care, this program is creating a brighter, more inclusive future for all.
Together, we can empower the next generation of leaders and change-makers!
